Is your business ready for growth?
If you are an entrepreneur, business owner or part of the leadership team within your business, you will have found yourself asking this question.
But what are the steps involved in driving growth sustainably?
Mindset
The first step is developing the right mindset for growth. Be open and honest with yourself and your team about what you want out of your business and why? If you see potential in your business, then you need to be prepared to achieve it, and be methodical in your execution. As we have already spoken about in ‘The growth challenge for the CEO’, growth won’t be sustained through simply changing the sales team, all aspects of ‘people, process and technology’ must be refined and tailored to achieve increased growth performance.
Mission and vision
Clarity in your mission and vision will allow you to stay on track.
Vision – Where do you want to be within the next 3/5 years?
Mission – What are the steps that will get you there?
Whilst easy on the surface, these questions are difficult answers for many businesses, especially for more established businesses. As a business develops over time, it matures either stagnating or develops its offering to stay relevant. Either way, its vision can become less clear and concise than it once was.
What do you want to be famous for?
From this vision, plan focused mission objectives in order to push your business closer and closer to the vision. In practice you should have no more than 5 agreed objectives, with a handful of 90-100 day programmes beneath each objective.
Assess both your wins and your losses
As the saying goes, success breeds success, which is why you should celebrate your wins and understand what led you to achieve them. But just as important are your losses. Speak to clients to find out where you didn’t quite meet the mark and generate loss reports in an honest and informed manner. Analysing both wins and losses should form the basis of a wider comprehensive swot analysis.
Accepting you may need support
You don’t know what you don’t know. If you have grown your business as far as you can, but know it has potential to go further, accepting you may need support in achieving this may be one of the bravest, but most rewarding steps you can take. Even if your business is successful and growing with good consistent profit there is still, arguably even more, reason for doubling down and looking at the whole process in its entirety.
At Ciyga we know what growth is and how to achieve it. Having been through the process, we find it incredibly satisfying to work with organisations of all sizes to help them achieve their true potential in generating successful growth.
